The Maryland Soccer Foundation is almost finished replacing its three existing turf fields with AstroTurf and Brock USA. The fields feature Zeofill, an organic infill that will help keep the surface cooler than a traditional sand and rubber infill.

Organic infill is not effective at absorbing impacts, and must be paired with a shock pad to keep GMax within an acceptable range. The Brock shock pad under the turf will ensure GMax levels stay below 120. This is much lower than the NFL requirement of 165 or less.

“In researching potential replacement fields safety was always our first area of concern. The Brock PowerBase shock pad AstroTurf uses was also a priority because it will help reduce injuries, particularly concussions.”

– Tish Heffelfinger, Maryland SoccerPlex Executive Director

The Maryland SoccerPlex is home to the Washington Spirit, and hosts youth leagues, adult leagues, NCAA division 1 college matches, and professional women’s matches. The new fields are scheduled to be completed January 13th, 2017.
